Final Exams at The Garage School

Enter The Garage School these days and there will be a quaint hush all over the school. The sound of pencils scribbling and pages turning, it’s exam time at The Garage School.

The students have been preparing for these final exams for the past one month at least! All geared up and hopeful to be promoted to the next grade, these students are trying to give in their very best for the paper.

These exams end on7th April 2012 and the reports will be given on the 12th. The new academic year will start from 23rd April 2012.

School Outreach Program starts at TGS, 19th January, 2012

The School Outreach Tour (SOT) is a unique initiative launched by the Citizens Archive of Pakistan. The program works with students in low-income schools to develop a culture of tolerance, critical thinking and an understanding of the country’s history and heritage.

CAP started this program on the 19th of January in our school. The students, of ages 11 and above, are enrolled in this 3 year, comprehensive course of theirs which is held every Thursday for 1 hour in the afternoon. The Citizens Archive of Pakistan is trying to instill the pride we all must have of Pakistan. The activity based teaching approach is surely going to help our students in their learning abilities along with sowing the seed of patriotism in their hearts.

Adult Literacy

Adult Literacy Programe was introduced on 22 jan 2008, with 25 women. The first session was completed on 25 Feb, 2008. These women have completed the first session and are now doing their grade two studies.

Today, Mr. Rana and Arshad came to give awareness to the parents regarding the value of education. They could get the basic education within 3 months, whereby they will be able to read and write in Urdu .

Shandana Minhas in CHOWK:

A maidservant’s daughter in Shabina Mustafa’s building was refused admission in a sewing class because she could not read or write. In the intro to the project her rejection spawned, Shabina writes, “if I could teach her some basic numeric and literacy skills, she could build on them and learn specialized skills to make something of her life. It was then that I thought, why not teach the children of other servants too. My garage was lying unused and it came in handy for this purpose.”

In November 1999, Shabina Mustafa’s maid’s daughter was refused admission to the neighbourhood sewing classes. “She cannot read or write”, they said. And thus, the Garage School was formed. This film screened at the 4th KaraFilm Festival in 2004.
