Dewali Celebrations 2007

Dewali Celebrations 2007On the 9th of November, 2007, we celebrated Dewali or Deepawali, “The festival of Light” by visiting three temples in the city with the Hindu and Sikh students along with Christian and Muslim teachers. It was a great experience. The temple in Clifton is right where the school is located, but noone had known about that place. It was underground on the main Kotari Parade area. Seems like a remains of a cave. A place worth a visit. It was called the “Shiv temple”.

The biggest temple, Swami Narian, is located on M.A Jinnah road. Noone could have guessed from the road that a big temple is located inside. It had loud music and people were cracking small fireworks.

Visit to KeamariThe second day we went late night to Keamari at the K.M.C compound, where they had set up a small stage and were showing the epic drama of Ramayan. We gained a lot of knowledge and found out how many of these children in that area were without any education.

Is it because they were the minorities? We have yet to find out.

We returned at 3.30am after having a great time.

Photographs of our trip can be seen here.

  • The Garage School is committed to providing a useful education to the under-privileged children in and around the Clifton area. We hope to form a socially, financially and environmentally self sustaining model that is accessible to many, so that individual development may follow a sustainable path.
