The Matric program was inaugurated on the 15th May, 09 by Ms. Sadia Naveed, Director Operation, English Biscuit Manufacturers Private Limited. The theme of the program was “Andharey Sey Ujaley Ki Tarf Pehla Qadam”( First step from darkness into the light)

The Matric program was opened up in collaboration with New Century Education Literate Pakistan with a hope that the street children 14 years and above who have never been to school get a chance of getting proper education . The students also got to meet Mr.Pierre Siellian ( The French Councel General and Ms Zainab ( New Century Education Literate Pakistan).
This is a beautiful story written by Kathey Kalame describing The Garage School and the efforts taken by Mrs Mustafa in bringing the underprivileged children from darkness to light.

The children were taken for a picnic at the farm on the 17th April 2009. The farm was located on the outskirts of Karachi.

The swimming pool was the best activity. The children enjoyed in the water. There were four separate pools for the boys and the girls.

After having a wonderful time in the swimming pool the children played on the swings and on the slides. The boys played cricket in the field.

In the end there was food and fun for everyone with delicious chicken qorma and juices. In the evening tea was served with biscuits, doughnuts and fruits.

Mr Y Arae the Vice Chairman of Toyota- Indus Motors Company Ltd visited The Garage School on the 7th April 2009.
He was happy to spend time with the children and also enjoyed enjoyed a birthday party at school.

The Garage School children besides being taught the regular subjects are also taught arts and crafts. The children love to explore their talents and the volunteers from various schools come on Saturdays to help the students at The Garage School in arts and crafts.

The paintings shown here are made by the children on glass tiles . They also taught to make doll houses with card board and now they are also preparing doll houses made by plywood.

The paintings done here are made on white tiles. The children also know how to make beautiful cards, crochet bags, crochet glass covers etc.

Mrs. Mustafa would like to sell the cards, bags, glass covers and designer tiles that have been made by the students (the young budding artists) to different countries of the world. People can put them in their homes and bathrooms and remember the young artists at The Garage School.
The Garage School children had an exciting day when they were taken to the Childrens Benefit Concert on the 19th of March,09. It was a morning programme which started at 10.00 a.m in the morning and ended in the afternoon at 1.00 p.m.

The children enjoyed skits that were performed by two children dressed up as clowns and also a dance performance by the Heart Group. Later on in the show they were given a big surprise by Hadiqa Kiyani the famous pop singer of Pakistan. She came and performed her latest songs. The children danced and sang along with her on stage and had alot of fun!
The Garage School teachers were taken to NASRA School, on the 5th March 09 to view a science exhibition. NASRA School is one of the oldest schools in Karachi. The school was beautifully decorated with different themes. The children conducted many experiments related to air, water and colors. Each class was given a different them. The students did very well. The Garage School teachers enjoyed themselves.

The hospital are quite a distance from the school and many parents will have a problem going there so we are looking for a hospital which is close by and which can collaborate with the Garage School for expenses.

On the 21st of February the founder of The Garage School Mrs Shabina Mustafa was overwhelmed by a surprise given by the students and teachers of the Garage School. The children gave cards and flowers to her ![]()
and later enjoyed a delicious chocolate cake, chips and juices. They went home with big smiles on their faces and enjoyed themselves a lot.
Special thanks goes to Marium Chawla who arranged the lovely surprise party. Shabina was overwhelmed by this gesture of hers.
